Florida Driver's License

To obtain a Florida Drivers License you will be required to pass an eye examination, surrender your out of state driver license and provide the following documents:

1. Identification: U.S. Citizens

Bring one of the following original documents as proof of your identity:

  • Certified U.S. birth certificate, including territories and District of Columbia (A hospital birth certificate is not acceptable.)
  • Valid U.S. Passport
  • Certificate of naturalization
  • Consular report of birth abroad

2. Social Security Number

Bring one original of the following documents that show your complete name and social security number:

  • Social Security Card (Must be an original in your current full name.)
  • W-2 form
  • Pay check/stub
  • SSA-1099
  • Any 1099 (Not handwritten.)

3. 2 Proofs of Residential Address

Bring two different documents from the following list showing your residential address (Internet printouts or faxes of these documents are acceptable):

  • Florida Vehicle Registration or Title
  • Florida Boat Registration or Title (if living on a boat/houseboat)
  • Automobile Payment Booklet
  • Selective Service Card
  • Medical or health card with address listed
  • Current automobile insurance policy or bill
  • W-2 form or 1099 form
  • Mail from financial institutions; including checking, savings or investment account statements, not more than two months old.
  • Mail from Federal, State, County or City government agencies

4. Name Change

If you have ever legally changed your name by marriage or court order, you must submit the original or a certified copy of your marriage certificate or court order. No photocopies will be accepted unless certified by the issuing authority. For multiple name changes, you must show a document trail linking your current name to your chosen proof of identity. Marriage licenses must be from a governmental agency. Church issued marriage licenses cannot be accepted. If presenting a valid U.S. Passport and the name on your passport is your current name, you are not required to present additional name change documents.

Florida Residency

Our mail service provides you with a personal mail box as well as a legal physical address. This address can help you to establish Florida Residency if you wish. You do not have to claim legal residency in Florida to use our mail service.

Any of the following actions can indicate your intent to establish Florida Residency:

  • Obtain a Florida Driver’s License
  • Register to vote in Florida
  • Declare Florida residency on a personal income tax return
  • File a declaration of domicile at a county courthouse
  • Qualifying for homestead exemption
You are considered a Florida resident when your true, fixed or permanent home and/or principal establishment is in Florida. You can establish Florida residence by filing a declaration of domicile, qualifying for homestead exemption or registering to vote. Other actions, such as obtaining a Florida Drivers License, can indicate intent to establish residency.

  • No state income tax.
  • No personal property tax.
  • No vehicle emissions testing requirements.
  • No annual vehicle inspections.

Florida Vehicle Registration

  • Cost for first time registration of a passenger vehicle in Florida is approximately $413.40. (Fees include transferring title, 1st year registration fee and new license plate.)
  • We provide your legal physical address.
  • Annual renewal of vehicle registration is from $55 to $72 per year-based on vehicle weight. Renewal for RV’s is approximately $80 per year. Annual renewals are done via mail.
  • NO inspections or emissions testing requirement in this county. (No annual trips to Florida are necessary.)
  • Sales tax may be collected on vehicles purchased within 6 months of registration application. (Documentation of at least 6% sales tax paid on purchase must be provided to avoid being charged.)
  • If you have previously owned vehicles in Florida and have purchased a Florida license plate that you no longer use, you can save the $225.00 initial registration fee on a passenger vehicle.

Be prepared to provide the following documentation:

1. Original title or loan information on lien holder.

2. Proof of Florida Insurance.

3. Vehicle identification number (VIN) verified by a police officer if not presenting the vehicle in person.

4. Bill of sale for vehicles purchased less than 6 months.
